Review:
We were liars is a book centered around fear, lies, love, greed, friendship and hate with jealousy.
I read the book fairly quickly seeing that it was considerably very short. I was bored at times and intrigued at the same time. This book was kind of weird, but I liked how the plot slowly revealed itself maintaining the suspense. I went in expecting a lot since it was SO over-hyped and that was what made me rate it only 3.5 stars. The writing is beautiful, no doubt about that. The fact that I couldn’t connect with the story itself is a pity, however I did connect to the characters somewhat. The ending was totally unexpected….and weird.
I enjoyed it but not quite.
Note:
This book is a Goodreads Choice 2014 Winner!
Quotes:
“Do not accept an evil you can change.”
“The universe is seeming really huge right now. I need something to hold on to.”
“Someone once wrote that a novel should deliver a series of small astonishments. I get the same thing spending an hour with you.”
“Silence is a protective coating over pain.”
“Divorce shreds the muscles of our hearts so that they will hardly beat without a struggle.”
Rating:
Hmm, sounds a bit pretentious…

None of the quotes really grabbed me.

I don’t know why people love this book so much. Meh. I didn’t like any of them. But these were some better than the others..

I tend to hate teen issue novels anyway, especially the ones where all the characters are rich and have family problems (which disqualifies the heck out of this book). I don’t know why, I just do.

It just seems pretentious that people are this rich and yet have all these stupid problems. All fake

Well, we all know money can’t buy happiness, so I can believe that rich people might have family problems. If I wanted rich people problems, though, I’d watch Downton Abbey.

Haha yeah. They were happy. They were greedy. Like all that money wasn’t enough. *rolls eyes*

Basically, the characters sucked? Maybe it would have worked better if the main characters, the teens, were a bit more down to earth.

The teens were crazy. They did something which resulted in death. Such stupidity. Much worse.

Liked the way you’ve written your review. The title kind of made me curious, and i probably would have bought this book when i saw it in the bookstore or somewhere else. Always liked this kind of books. But after reading your review, i would thing about it twice before buying it. Oké, i think everyone has his own vision on the story, the style of writing and it shouldn’t affect your oppinion. I mean, you can give your oppinion ones you’ve read it, not before right? Well, like i said, i liked your review and i would definately think twice before buying it. But i should read it myself before i’ll give my oppinion (:
By the way, like your blog!

I completely agree with your thoughts. I did enjoy the book, but I think it would have been so much more enjoyable if people hadn’t created so much hype around it! I went in with expectations that it was going to be ground breaking and marvelous, and while it wasn’t bad, it didn’t live up to my expectations at all!

Exactly! I think somewhere it lost its charm mainly because people kept raving about it and hence creating this image which was not really how the book was. And its so weird, I mean everyone seems to love it and then we start questioning our ratings and stuff. Glad to find out, that you felt the same. 🙂
